Why Reggaeton Dance Is So Good for Your Confidence

There’s something about reggaeton that makes you want to move.

Maybe it’s the music. Maybe it’s the energy. Maybe it’s finally letting yourself stop overthinking and just... dance.

But beyond the fun, reggaeton dance can do something pretty special for your confidence too.

And you don't need to be a dancer to experience it.

You learn to get comfortable in your body

When you first start dancing, it can feel strange to move in ways you're not used to.

Hips. Isolations. Grooves. Body movement.

At first, you might be thinking about every single thing your body is doing.

Over time, you start thinking less and feeling more.

You become more comfortable moving your body without worrying about how you look.

And that confidence can follow you outside the studio too.

You get comfortable making mistakes

You're going to forget choreography.

You're going to go left when everyone else goes right.

You're probably going to have a moment where your brain completely stops working.

And that's okay.

Dance teaches you that getting something wrong doesn't mean you have failed.

You just keep moving.

The more you practise that, the easier it becomes to stop being afraid of making mistakes.

You start trusting yourself

At the beginning, you might need the teacher to show you a movement five times.

Then four.

Then three.

Eventually, you start recognising the rhythm and picking things up on your own.

Those little moments build confidence.

Not because someone told you that you're a good dancer, but because you can actually feel yourself improving.

That's a pretty good feeling.

You get to take up space

There's something powerful about dancing without apologising for yourself.

Moving bigger.

Using your hips.

Being expressive.

Taking up space.

You don't need to perform for anyone.

You don't need to look a certain way.

You just get to move.

And sometimes, that's exactly what we need.

You find people who are learning too

One of our favourite things about beginner-friendly dance classes is that you're not doing it alone.

People come in with different experiences, different bodies and different levels of confidence.

Some people have danced before.

Some have never taken a dance class in their life.

But everyone is learning.

You laugh together, encourage each other and celebrate the little wins.

And suddenly, something that felt intimidating doesn't feel so scary anymore.

Confidence isn't the starting point

This is probably the biggest thing we believe at Spice It Up.

You don't need confidence to start dancing.

You build confidence by starting.

By showing up when you're nervous.

By trying something new.

By getting it wrong and trying again.

By realising your body can do more than you thought.

And maybe one day you'll notice that you're not standing at the back of the room anymore.

You're dancing.

You're smiling.

You're not thinking about whether you're doing it “right”.

You're just enjoying yourself.

That's confidence.
